Teaching Cambridge FCE

All the tricks, tips and knacks to teach the most important points to pass the Cambridge First Certificate Exam. It will cover all the areas of vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing skills for each and every paper. We will cover what to teach in every part and more importantly what not to teach. All the material and notes will be provided for teachers to keep and use in their classrooms.

Teaching Legal English and the language of Law

An introduction to the kind of language used in Law, as well as the process of teaching legal english to law students and newly qualified lawyers. An overview of Legal English terminology and ideas to teach legal vocabulary, with free ready to use activities suitable for different levels. Writing - Turning paper to canvas

An interesting and worthwhile hobby for teachers and an introductory workshop into essays, poetry and much more. The workshop provides teachers with many ideas about writing in the classroom. We will see works by William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Winston Churchill, George Orwell and William Blake.

Poetry in times of war: vapidizing Shakespeare

Wilfred Owen, the greatest War poet, once said that after reading Siegfried Sassoons' poetry, “even Shakespeare seems vapid”. Theirs are poems dealing with identity, innocence, guilt, loyalty, courage, compassion, humanity, duty, desire and death. We shall analyse works of Wilfred Owen,Rupert Brooke, Edward Thomas, Siegfried Sassoon, Philip Larkin and Robert Graves.

Tea with Austen - a Jane Austen film club

Two hour sessions bringing Jane Austen, her novels and the Regency Period alive through food, dress, social customs and other 19th Century historical details. Reading and watching film adaptations of three of Austen's novels – Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion to learn about the elegant splendor of the Regency Period and gather teaching ideas as well as ready to use activities for the classroom.
